Understanding sleep medicine

At Endeavor Health, we understand that sleep is essential to your overall health — mentally, physically and emotionally. When a sleep disorder goes untreated, it can lead to serious health issues like hypertension, stroke and heart disease. For children, poor sleep may affect mood, learning, behavior and academic performance.

Conditions we treat

We offer tailored support and testing options for adults and children with a wide range of sleep disorders, including:

Circadian rhythm disorders

Misalignment of your internal clock, causing trouble falling asleep or waking at desired times.

Insomnia

Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or returning to sleep after waking, often caused by stress, health issues or disrupted routines.

Narcolepsy and hypersomnia

Sudden daytime sleep episodes or persistent drowsiness that interferes with normal routines.

Night terrors

Episodes of intense fear during sleep, more common in children, but also possible in adults.

Parasomnias

Disruptive sleep behaviors, such as sleepwalking, night terrors or REM behavior disorder.

Restless legs syndrome

Uncomfortable sensations in the legs that create an uncontrollable urge to move, especially at night.

Sleep apnea

Repeated pauses in breathing during sleep, often causing loud snoring, gasping or daytime fatigue.

Snoring

Loud or chronic snoring that may signal a larger issue like sleep apnea.

Advanced sleep testing options

Our Sleep Centers are equipped with the latest diagnostic tools designed to get to the root of your sleep concerns.

Home sleep apnea test (HSAT)

A convenient, simplified study you take at home to help diagnose obstructive sleep apnea in adults.

In-lab sleep study (polysomnography)

An overnight, in-lab study that monitors brain activity, breathing, heart rate, and more in order to identify your sleep disorder. Home-based studies are also available for select patients.

Maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT)

Assesses your ability to stay awake during the day, in order to evaluate treatment effectiveness for sleep disorders or assess alertness for safety reasons.

Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT)

Measures how quickly you fall asleep in a quiet environment, often used to diagnose narcolepsy and other excessive daytime sleepiness conditions.

Oral appliance titration

A non-invasive option for mild sleep apnea, this test helps determine if a dental appliance may be effective to improve airflow.

PAP titration

A sleep study to determine the ideal CPAP or BiPAP settings for you, using positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy for sleep apnea.

Pediatric sleep study

We offer in-lab sleep studies for children, with sleep accommodations provided for parents to ensure comfort and support.

Sleep treatment options

Our Sleep Centers are equipped to treat a wide range of sleep concerns with the latest tools and therapies. Whether you’re dealing with sleep apnea, insomnia or excessive fatigue, our team is here to help you regain restful, restorative sleep and improve your overall health.

CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) device

A CPAP machine blows a steady flow of air into your mouth and nose to keep your airways open while you sleep. It is used to treat sleep-related breathing disorders like sleep apnea. We offer PAP NAP, a brief, in-lab session that helps you become more comfortable with CPAP equipment and usage.

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I)

A proven, non-drug treatment that addresses the thoughts and behaviors that keep you awake.

Inspire® therapy

An innovative, minimally invasive option for sleep apnea that uses a small implanted device to stimulate airway muscles during sleep, ensuring uninterrupted breathing. Great for patients who can’t tolerate CPAP.

Oral device

These devices are often custom-made by a dentist and can be worn in your mouth while you sleep to help keep your airway open.

Sleep hygiene

Education to help you adopt healthy sleep habits at home.

Frequently asked questions

A sleep study is a painless overnight test that monitors your breathing, brain activity, heart rate, and more while you sleep. It helps your care team understand what’s affecting your rest — and how to treat it. We require seven hours of recording time for your study. The entire sleep study (from the moment you arrive to the time you leave) takes about 10 hours.

In-lab testing offers the most comprehensive data, monitored by a sleep technologist. Home testing is a simpler option used for diagnosing sleep apnea in qualifying adults. Your physician will help determine which is right for you.

Bring an overnight bag with personal items, including your toothbrush, soap, shampoo, etc. You’ll want to bring loose, comfortable clothing to sleep in and socks or slippers. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Results are usually available within 10 business days. Once our board-certified sleep medicine physician reviews your results and shares them with your primary care physician, your doctor’s office may set up an appointment for you to come in to discuss the results.

You’re not alone — and you have options. Inspire therapy, oral appliances, and behavioral therapies may be available. We’ll help you find a treatment that works for you.

Our support group, AWAKE, provides a community for patients with sleep apnea.

If you’re struggling to fall or stay asleep, snoring loudly, experiencing daytime fatigue or are waking up gasping, it may be time to speak with a sleep specialist.

Yes. We perform in-lab sleep studies for children (age varies by location). Children under 18 are required to have a parent and/or legal guardian stay with them for the duration of the sleep study. When packing your child’s overnight bag, be sure to pack enough items to satisfy your child’s needs through the night and into the next day.

Insomnia can stem from stress, lifestyle habits, medications or medical conditions. Our team can help identify the root cause of your insomnia and develop a personalized treatment plan.

Costs vary depending on your insurance plan and whether you’re doing an in-lab or at-home study. Our billing team is happy to walk you through your options.
