Whenever I approach a patient encounter , I take it from the standpoint of the patient—what would they want to have in their physician? I think the most important thing is to be listened to. If a patient tells me they’re in the worst pain of their life, I believe them and treat them accordingly, taking my own biases out of it so I can provide the best care.
