What is your endeavor?
I volunteer at an animal rescue shelter. It started a couple of years ago when I was looking to volunteer somewhere but honestly had no idea what I wanted to do. I happened to follow a Facebook profile for an animal shelter near me. I saw a post one day that said that if they didn’t find some new volunteers, they wouldn’t be able to continue. My son and I decided it was something we could do together. He’s in college now, but I’m still doing it!
I spend most of my Saturday mornings there. I’m an early riser, and so it works great for me. I help with cleaning, laundry, taking the dogs outside to play. I think I do more cleaning at the shelter than I do at my own house!
What is it about your volunteer role that draws you?
I find that I look forward to my time there. It’s a stress reliever for me. The thing about animals – they’re always so happy to see you.
How do you think helping these animals makes you better at your job?
I think our jobs can be so challenging and complex. This job is simple. It’s almost freeing for me. There are no expectations and anything I do there is helpful. I think it gives me something that helps me feel balanced.
