As Endeavor Health’s Chief Innovation & Transformation Officer, Kristen Murtos inspires the organization to think bigger, bolder and outside the box to drive sustainable growth, differentiation and peak performance while transforming healthcare delivery for team members, patients and communities. With oversight for system Strategy, Innovation, Transformation, Community Impact & Engagement and Government Relations, Murtos is a dedicated leader with a passion for helping organizations and people uncover and realize their full potential.

Her 23-plus-year tenure at Endeavor Health includes progressive leadership roles drawing on her deep expertise at the intersection of strategy and operations to enable business transformation. She brings to this pivotal role a knack for creative, big-picture thinking and diverse experience across the healthcare spectrum, including oversight of hospital and medical group operations and directing essential administrative functions such as revenue cycle, payor contracting, marketing, philanthropy, supply chain, legal and risk.

Previously, Murtos served as Chief Administrative and Strategy Officer of NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) prior to its 2022 merger with Edward-Elmhurst Health. In this role, she was instrumental in driving the health system’s strategy including an intentional path of growth through partnership with the additions of Swedish Hospital, Northwest Community Healthcare and Edward-Elmhurst Health. Murtos established the system’s first Transformation Management Office, comprised of a team of operational and change management experts who have been critical in partnering with leaders to enable Endeavor to deliver on its quality, financial, growth and people strategies.

Under her leadership, Endeavor Health established the nation’s largest primary care-embedded clinical genomics program, created the Endeavor Health Community Investment Fund and tapped into the power of data, technology and AI to transform the care experience. By staying at the forefront of the latest scientific advancements, offering more ways for patients to seamlessly access care, leveraging data to provide a more personal experience and enabling our teams to thrive, Murtos ensures that innovation is not just a background process but a fundamental driver of the organization’s success.

Murtos joined NorthShore in 1998 from Deloitte Consulting where she advised clients in M&A, operational improvement and market growth strategy. Her various roles at NorthShore included Vice President of NorthShore Medical Group, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development and President of Skokie Hospital, where she successfully led a $100 million transformation of the Skokie Hospital campus which contributed to the formation of Endeavor Health’s nationally-ranked Orthopaedic & Spine Institute at Skokie Hospital.

Murtos earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois and master’s degrees in business administration and public policy from the University of Chicago. She is a member of The Chicago Network, Northwestern Kellogg Healthcare Advisory Council and Oliver Wyman Health Innovation Center Leaders Alliance. She has previously been involved with the University of Chicago Graduate Program in Health Administration and Policy Executive Council, the North Shore Board of the American Cancer Society, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, the North Suburban Healthcare Foundation and the Advisory Board for the Kindness Connection, an organization promoting volunteerism among school-aged children. She resides in Evanston with her husband and three kids and enjoys traveling, relaxing and recharging with a hammock and a good book.
