Board certified in Internal Medicine, Dr. Nelson is a primary care internal medicine specialist who is passionate about population health, prevention, wellness and chronic disease management.
Throughout her career, she has demonstrated success taking on leadership challenges, including those focused on quality and safety, clinical integration, strategic planning and physician alignment and is able to translate strategy into operational success and positive clinical outcomes.
Committed to physician engagement, Dr. Nelson has successfully implemented physician alignment strategies through direct employment, physician services agreements and clinically integrated networks. She has significant experience in physician recruitment, physician contracting, and the design and implementation of physician compensation strategies to meet system goals.
She served as NCH’s Medical Director System of Care from 2012-2014 and managed the NCH Medical Group as Vice President Physician Operations from 2014-2023 overseeing the growth of the medical group from 50 to over 325 multispecialty physician and APP providers along with expansion of clinical programs and sites of care. She transitioned to the Executive Vice President Physician Operations role in March of 2023.
Previous leadership roles include the NCH Board of Directors, Affinity Medical Group, Advocate Medical Group Board of Directors and Advocate Health and Hospital Board of Directors.
Dr. Nelson earned her M.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Lutheran General Hospital. She is a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and the American College of Physicians.
