Evanston, Ill. – Endeavor Health℠ is proud to announce the latest three of its hospitals—Elmhurst Hospital, Northwest Community Hospital and Swedish Hospital — that have earned Magnet® redesignation, the nation’s highest honor in nursing excellence. Awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, this prestigious recognition highlights Endeavor Health’s unwavering commitment to delivering the highest standards in patient care and nursing practice.
In 2024, Endeavor Health’s five other Magnet-eligible hospitals earned redesignation – Edward Hospital, Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital and Skokie Hospital.
Widely considered the gold standard in nursing excellence, Magnet designation is associated with stronger patient outcomes, higher nurse engagement and retention, and improved patient satisfaction. Endeavor Health stands among a select group of health systems nationwide composed entirely of Magnet hospitals — reflecting a sustained, system-wide commitment to clinical quality, professional nursing practice and patient-centered care.
“This recognition reflects the strength and consistency of our nursing culture across the entire organization,” said John Tressa, DNP, RN, MBA, NEA-BC, System Chief Nursing Executive at Endeavor Health. “Our nurses are empowered to lead at the bedside, influence practice and drive measurable improvements in outcomes. That shared accountability is what makes system-wide Magnet recognition possible.”
- Elmhurst Hospital achieved its third Magnet designation and earned the elite Magnet with Distinction™ honor — placing it among the highest-performing Magnet organizations worldwide. The hospital received nine exemplars, exceeding national benchmarks across key measures including nurse engagement, educational attainment, falls with injury, pressure injuries, central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and patient experience. More than 84% of Elmhurst nurses hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or higher.
- Northwest Community Hospital achieved its fifth Magnet designation, earning four exemplars that highlight exceptional performance. Reviewers recognized the hospital for surpassing national benchmarks in catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and blood culture contamination rates. Additionally, 80% of nurses hold a BSN or higher, reinforcing a strong foundation in professional preparation and evidence-based care.
- Swedish Hospital earned its fourth Magnet designation, with reviewers commending its collaborative leadership culture and strong nurse–physician partnership. Nursing leaders were noted for their visible presence and direct engagement with frontline teams. Swedish Hospital received two exemplars for sustained excellence in hospital-acquired pressure injury prevention and emergency department door-to-needle time (for stroke treatment), consistently outperforming national benchmarks across multiple quarters. Additionally, 88% of nurses hold a BSN or higher.
Magnet redesignation requires a rigorous, multi-year review of clinical performance, workforce engagement and leadership practices, including comprehensive documentation and on-site evaluation.
With all of its acute care hospitals earning Magnet recognition, Endeavor Health continues to distinguish itself as a premier environment for nursing excellence where exceptional care is not isolated to one location, but embedded across the organization.
