Kathryn (Katie) Hegener, PA-C, a physician assistant specializing in hand surgery at Endeavor Health, helps patients recover from hand injuries and conditions that affect their daily lives. She supports patients through post-op and follow-up care, performs procedures and assists in surgery. Katie aims to ease patient anxiety and guide them back to the activities they love through compassionate and knowledgeable care.

My endeavor is that our patients are able to leave the office feeling better than when they came in.
Care philosophy
I do everything I can to ease patient anxiety, answer their questions and make sure they leave feeling better and more comfortable than when they arrived. I want them to feel supported and confident that we’re working to get them back to doing the things they love.

Katherine was very knowledgeable about my hand injury and treatment alternatives. With one small broken bone, already mending, my simplest and lowest risk option was to keep using the hand brace.

She was perfectly nice, but didnt really engage with my significant disappointment about getting a cast. Her explanations about why it was needed might have been enough for some people, but I would have preferred to be treated more as an intelligent person who could understand a general medical explanation, and not spoken down to. Her attitude was almost one of, you can like it or not, but this is happening'.

This was an exceptional experience from start to finish. For a relatively minor surgery (removing an object in my finger), I saw 10 Endeavor staff over three visits. EVERY single person was professional, kind, helpful, and efficient. We just moved to Evanston last year […] and this was a superior experience from start to finish!

Kathryn is friendly, helpful, and thoughtful. I appreciated her cheerfulness and energy. (Wow. Energy even late in the afternoon.) Some practitioners make me feel as though they're Interrogating me. Kathryn was different. She never rushed or badgered me. Instead, she calmly listened to me. She took a sincere interest. Her responses reassured me. She explained the situation well (a broken knuckle in my right hand, starting to heal by itself). She offered practical home treatments (buddy taping, etc.) and allowed me to choose between various options. Never pushing drugs or therapy, the way other providers do. I was well along with the healing already. (Just some remaining swelling and minor pain with the index finger in certain positions.) Kathryn allowed me to remove the splint and bandages that Immediate Care had installed. That alone made me feel much better: Freedom, at last!

Appointment was on time and the staff was great. I had a previous procedure on my back earlier in the week. My bandage came off and the nurse replaced It for me. Awesome.
