Conditions we treat

Acute inpatient rehabilitation is ideal for patients who need continued medical and rehabilitative care before returning home. Our specialists care for individuals recovering from:

  • Stroke or neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barré syndrome
  • Brain or spinal cord injuries
  • Orthopaedic injuries, including hip fractures and amputations
  • Multiple serious injuries from accidents
  • Major surgery or critical illness requiring functional recovery

Our approach

Our acute inpatient rehabilitation programs combine advanced therapies, compassionate care and close medical supervision to help you regain function and independence.

Your personalized care plan will be managed by a physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) physician, also known as a physiatrist, and may include:

  • Physical therapy: Rebuild strength, balance and mobility
  • Occupational therapy: Regain the ability to perform daily tasks safely and confidently
  • Speech therapy: Improve communication or swallowing abilities
  • Recreational therapy: Reconnect with hobbies and interests that support motivation and recovery
  • Cognitive and emotional support: Restore confidence, motivation and focus
  • Psychology: Build coping skills and emotional resilience during your recovery
  • Rehabilitation nursing: Receive around-the-clock support to manage symptoms, medications and safety
  • Nutritional counseling: Get guidance on diet and nutrition to support strength and healing
  • Discharge planning: Prepare for a safe return home with coordinated follow-up care and resources
  • Caregiver training: Help family members learn safe techniques and prepare for your transition home

Most patients stay an average of 10 to 14 days, depending on their condition and recovery goals.

Your care team

A collaborative team of rehabilitation specialists, including physiatrists, physical and occupational therapists, rehabilitation nurses and social workers, coordinates your care with additional support from speech and recreational therapists, psychologists and nutritionists.

Getting started

If you or a loved one could benefit from acute inpatient rehabilitation, talk to your hospital social worker or case manager about a referral. You do not need to be a current Endeavor Health patient to receive care. Your care team will help coordinate your evaluation and transfer to one of our participating hospitals.

Our acute inpatient rehabilitation programs accept Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid and most private insurance plans.
