Advanced surgery across every specialty

At Endeavor Health, we provide surgical care that combines exceptional expertise with forward-thinking technology and a commitment to whole-person healing. From outpatient procedures to complex inpatient operations, our board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeons, backed by highly trained support teams, work across every specialty to deliver superior results with compassion and precision.

Surgeon in operating room

We perform thousands of operations every year, throughout Chicagoland, using the most advanced surgical tools and techniques available, including robotic-assisted and minimally invasive procedures.

Whether you’re preparing for surgery or seeking urgent care for an injury or illness that may require surgery, our multidisciplinary team will guide you every step of the way—from preadmission and preparation through recovery and long-term healing.

Surgical programs we offer

Surgery involves subspecialized care for many areas of the body, from the head to the rectum and vital gastrointestinal, vascular and endocrine systems as well. Our expert surgeons use their highly specialized skills to achieve optimal outcomes.

Our surgery programs include:

Acute care and trauma surgery

Minimally invasive or open approaches addressing urgent surgical conditions such as appendicitis, gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis) and intestinal obstructions as well as injuries arising from trauma.

Bariatric surgery

Emphasis is placed on surgically altering the digestive system to help those with severe obesity lose weight by reducing food intake and calories absorbed through procedures such as gastric bypass surgery, sleeve gastrectomy and duodenal switch.

Breast surgery

Concentrates on both benign and malignant breast disease and includes stereotactic biopsies, lumpectomies, cyst and tumor removal.

Colorectal surgery

Provides surgical solutions for colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and complex anorectal disease, such as hemorrhoids and fissures, rectal prolapse, and pelvic floor reconstruction.

Endocrine surgery

Targets disorders of the endocrine glands such as thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and pancreatic glands, addressing conditions such as thyroid nodules or cancer, hyperparathyroidism and adrenal tumors, using minimally invasive surgical techniques.

Esophageal and stomach surgery

Addresses conditions affecting the esophagus and stomach including cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and stomach ulcers,  among others, using robotics and other minimally invasive techniques; some complex issues may require traditional open surgery.

Hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgery

Treats cancers and chronic conditions attributed to the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile duct regions. Advanced treatments include minimally invasive tools, such as non-thermal ablation for locally advanced cancer, and advanced innovative techniques for open-surgery.

Minimally invasive surgery

Focuses on using smaller incisions than traditional open surgery, resulting in less tissue damage, reduced pain and faster recovery, such as in hernia repair (laparoscopic and robotic techniques) and POEM (peroral endoscopic myotomy) which is a procedure for swallowing difficulties, among many others.

Regional perfusion

HIPEC and HAI pumps facilitate targeted delivery of concentrated chemotherapy to specific areas of the body.

Surgical oncology

Focuses on the surgical management of cancers, like saracomas, and includes the treatment of breast, colon, liver, lung, pancreatic and skin cancers, such as melanoma, along with preventive and palliative surgeries.

Thoracic surgery

Focuses on treating diseases and injuries of the chest, including lungs, esophagus, trachea and chest wall, using a wide range of procedures from minimally invasive to complex open surgeries.

Complex robotic procedures and advanced therapies

We offer the most advanced, complex surgical treatments and therapies close to home, including:

Robotic-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy

Also known as the Whipple procedure, removes tumors and treats other conditions affecting the head of the pancreas, duodenum, gallbladder and bile ducts.

Robotic-assisted esophagectomy and gastrectomy

Removes all or part of the esophagus and/or stomach and reconstructs the digestive tract.

Robotic-assisted liver surgery
HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy)

A type of advanced locoregional therapy that uses a ‘hot chemo bath’ to treat certain abdominal cancers, particularly those that have spread to the lining of the abdominal cavity, allowing for a higher concentration of chemotherapy once visible tumors have been surgically removed.

NanoKnife

A non-thermal ablation treatment for locally advanced pancreatic cancer that uses electrical pulses to destroy cancer cells in areas that are difficult to access surgically. Also known as irreversible electroporation, NanoKnife offers a surgical option for patients who are not candidates for traditional tumor removal.

A team approach to care

Our surgeons are early adopters of breakthrough procedures like HIPEC, Whipple, POEM and Aquablation, backed by access to one of the nation’s leading surgical simulation centers. We are constantly pushing for better outcomes — fewer complications, faster recovery and lower readmission rates — while keeping your safety, comfort and goals at the center of it all.

Our physician specialists work alongside advanced practice providers with subspecialty experience and training. Depending on the condition, the surgery team collaborates with colleagues from multiple disciplines including oncologists, gastroenterologists and primary care physicians.

We utilize sophisticated resources to enhance patient care, safety and quality, and are involved in pioneering research and clinical trials.
