Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other sleep-related breathing disorders are common, often underdiagnosed, and can significantly impact your daytime energy, cardiovascular health, mental health, and overall quality of life. While nonsurgical therapies, such as CPAP or oral appliances, help many individuals, others may benefit from surgery.

Our multidisciplinary sleep surgery team will evaluate your needs and offer advanced, personalized procedures designed to address the root cause of your sleep issues so you can feel better and live healthier.

There are a variety of signs indicating OSA or sleep-disordered breathing, including:

  • Loud snoring or noisy breathing during sleep
  • Daytime fatigue or sleepiness
  • Frequent nighttime awakenings or choking/gasping during sleep
  • Morning headaches or difficulty concentrating
  • Chronic nasal blockage affecting sleep

Bed partner observations can be particularly helpful for recognizing symptoms, as individuals are often unaware of breathing interruptions during sleep.

Your sleep surgeon will perform a focused history and physical exam of the nose, throat and airway. Additional diagnostic tools and tests may include:

  • In-office endoscopic exams: Evaluation of your nasal and airway structures to identify obstruction sites.
  • Sleep studies: Conducted at home or in our state-of-the-art Sleep Labs to monitor your oxygen, heart rate, breathing patterns, and sleep quality.
  • Drug-induced sedated endoscopy (DISE): A brief outpatient procedure performed under sedation to observe airway behavior in sleep-like conditions. DISE helps tailor your surgical plan by pinpointing which obstruction sites are most likely to respond to intervention. You go home the same day.

Our team customizes your treatment to your anatomy, severity of OSA, and overall health. We’ll combine your surgery with nonsurgical therapies (e.g., CPAP, oral appliances) when appropriate.

Clinical trials & research

Our ENT and sleep teams participate in ongoing research related to obstructive sleep apnea, including studies on drug-induced sedated endoscopy (DISE), outcomes and quality of life after hypoglossal nerve stimulation (Inspire), and approaches that improve tolerance of nonsurgical therapies. Your surgeon will review your eligibility and next steps if a study fits your diagnosis and goals.
