Therapeutic approach

Recovering from addiction and/or a co-occuring mental health condition is highly personal. That’s why we offer a variety of evidence-based treatments and therapies to help you build essential skills, address underlying issues and develop a strong foundation for lasting wellness.

These therapeutic approaches may include:

  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): Helps you build skills to manage intense emotions, improve relationships and reduce self-destructive behaviors that can be caused by addiction. This therapy focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness to support your recovery journey.
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT): Encourages you to accept difficult thoughts and feelings that come with addiction and co-occurring conditions, and to commit to actions aligned with your personal values. ACT helps you create a rich, meaningful life while navigating the challenges of recovery.
  • Motivational interviewing (MI): Helps you explore and resolve any uncertainty you may feel about change. This collaborative approach places you at the center, supporting you in finding your own motivation to make positive change and honoring your active role in your recovery.
  • Expressive therapy: Offers creative ways to process traumatic experiences and related emotions when words are difficult. Activities like art, music or movement therapy can help you explore feelings, reduce stress and foster healing in a supportive way.
  • Community support groups: Offer a safe space in a group setting to share experiences, gain encouragement, and build a supportive network. We strongly encourage you to participate in these groups as a vital part of your recovery. We can help connect you with groups, such as 12-Step programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery.
