Interventional oncology is a subspecialty of interventional radiology that uses image-guided, minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat cancer. These therapies allow specialists to directly target tumors — reducing harm to healthy tissue, minimizing recovery time and often avoiding surgery.
At Endeavor Health, our interventional radiologists are part of your multidisciplinary cancer team. We work closely with your oncologist and surgeon to coordinate treatments that complement your overall care plan and improve your outcomes.

Types of interventional oncology services
Image-guided core biopsies provide tissue samples for diagnosis and molecular analysis, helping to identify the most effective treatments.
Destroys tumors using heat (radiofrequency or microwave ablation), cold (cryoablation), bronchoscopic Nd-YAG laser, or electrical pulses (NanoKnife®/irreversible electroporation, IRE). Commonly used for liver, kidney, lung and bone tumors. NanoKnife is especially useful for tumors near critical structures where traditional ablation may pose a risk.
Delivers chemotherapy directly to a tumor’s blood supply, cutting off nutrients while limiting systemic side effects. Often used after Y90 for liver tumors.
Injects tiny beads containing radiation directly into the blood vessels feeding a liver tumor. Allows for targeted radiation delivery.
HIPEC/PIPAC delivers heated chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity after tumor removal surgery to target microscopic cancer cells. Used to treat select abdominal cancers, HIPEC/PIPAC can reduce recurrence and improve outcomes when performed in collaboration with surgical oncology.
Infuses chemotherapy or other therapies directly into the affected organ using image-guided catheter placement. This includes intrahepatic chemotherapy pumps that deliver continuous medication directly to the liver over time — maximizing the local effect while minimizing systemic exposure.
Interventional approaches can relieve pain, fluid buildup or other symptoms, and divert blockages within important tubes, ducts and blood vessels — improving quality of life for patients at any stage of care.
Placement of central line catheters used to secure systemic therapy delivery into the appropriate blood vessel.
Why choose Endeavor Health?
At Endeavor Health, we combine precision imaging, specialized expertise and team-based planning to deliver interventional oncology treatments that are safe, effective and minimally invasive.
Our interventional radiology team includes board-certified physicians with specialized training in minimally invasive cancer treatments.
Procedures are done through tiny incisions using real-time imaging to reduce pain, preserve healthy tissue and support faster recovery.
We offer ablation, embolization, radioembolization and other image-guided treatments not widely available in community settings.
Our nurse navigators, social workers and oncology pharmacists help manage side effects, coordinate follow-up and connect you with additional resources.

Clinical trials
Our teams participate in clinical trials to refine interventional oncology techniques, explore new indications, and improve patient outcomes. Ask your care team whether a study may be right for you.
