This three-year residency offers a comprehensive, hands-on training experience that merges the strengths of community-based patient care with academic rigor. Residents gain clinical excellence, leadership skills and a solid foundation for primary care, academic medicine or subspecialty fellowship.

Our residency program is fully accredited by the ACGME with no citations. In addition to its strong clinical and academic foundation, the program also offers residents access to an extensive personalized and precision medicine program, further distinguishing it from other training environments.

- Residents complete 130 continuity clinics over 3 years and participate in ABIM board prep, Grand Rounds and protected didactic time.
We accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) for both the Categorical and Preliminary Internal Medicine programs. Applicants must have graduated from medical school within the last 3 years.
Requirements include:
- ERAS application with personal statement
- MSPE (Dean’s Letter)
- Medical school transcript
- USMLE or COMLEX transcripts
- Three letters of recommendation (Categorical applicants should include a Department of Medicine summary letter)
- ECFMG certification (if applicable), with preference for at least 3 months of supervised U.S. clinical experience

- COS Building/NorthShore Community Health Center – Continuity clinic, serving underserved populations
The Grainger Simulation Center is one of the largest simulation skills laboratories in the Midwest and features 16,000 sq ft of cutting-edge training space and high-fidelity mannequins, educating residents through interactive clinical scenarios and training models.
