The Advanced Practicum Training in Clinical Health Psychology offers graduate students a rich opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple health psychology domains. This program is ideal for students looking to develop expertise in formal short-term, goal-oriented evidence-based treatments and build strong skills in clinical assessment, note writing and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Students can expect a diverse training experience with opportunities in pediatric and adult populations, including pain management, psycho-oncology, bariatric surgery evaluations and more. With structured supervision and exposure to group and individual therapy, this practicum supports the development of well-rounded, skilled clinicians.

About the program

This advanced practicum is designed for graduate students in clinical psychology who want to deepen their training in health psychology. Trainees engage in direct clinical work through a variety of outpatient settings, with options to specialize in:

  • Pediatric health psychology
  • Adult bariatric surgery and weight loss management
  • Adult pain management
  • Adult psycho-oncology

Students also may have opportunities to:

  • Conduct pre-surgical psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery and DRG/SCS implantation
  • Lead skills-based therapy groups
  • Train in formal short-term evidence-based interventions
  • Gain extensive practice in clinical documentation and diagnostic assessment

Supervision is a key strength of this practicum. Trainees receive weekly structured individual supervision, frequent informal guidance and bimonthly group supervision sessions led by a diverse team of pediatric and adult health psychologists.

  • 16–20 hours per week over 2–3 days

How to apply

Applicants should have completed relevant coursework in clinical psychology. Prior health psychology practicum training is preferred but not required.

Training takes place at Endeavor Health Skokie Hospital and Endeavor Health Evanston Hospital. Locations are accessible by public transit and free parking is provided for those who drive.
