The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at Endeavor Health offers rigorous training in interventional cardiology. Fellows graduate with advanced procedural skills and the confidence to lead in academic and clinical cardiovascular care.

Program overview

Welcome to the University of Chicago (Endeavor Health) Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program. Our one-year ACGME-accredited interventional cardiology fellowship offers comprehensive, high-volume training in coronary, structural and peripheral interventions. As a fellow, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based cardiovascular care to a diverse patient population.

Our program emphasizes hands-on procedural training, academic excellence, and professional development. Fellows are exposed to a broad range of interventional techniques and technologies, including intravascular imaging, hemodynamic assessment, complex PCI and emerging therapies. You will work alongside faculty who are committed to mentorship, education and advancing the field of interventional cardiology.

The Glenbrook Hospital Cardiovascular Institute provides a supportive, collegial environment that fosters collaboration, innovation and patient-centered care. Upon completion of the program, our graduates are well-prepared for careers in both academic and community-based interventional cardiology.

Program structure & curriculum

The primary goal of the interventional cardiology fellowship is to provide comprehensive training in the diagnosis, care and catheter-based treatment of patients with coronary and structural heart disease.

The fellowship includes structured rotations focused on coronary and structural procedures, imaging and outpatient and inpatient cardiovascular care.

By the end of the program, fellows demonstrate mastery in:

  • Trans-femoral and trans-radial arterial access
  • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) including stenting and angioplasty
  • Coronary atherectomy (rotational, orbital, laser)
  • Mechanical thrombectomy
  • Intracoronary imaging: IVUS, OCT
  • Fractional flow reserve (FFR) testing
  • Complex high-risk PCI and chronic total occlusion (CTO) intervention
  • Use and management of support devices (e.g., IABP, Impella)
  • Structural interventions including:
    • Balloon valvuloplasty
    • TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement)
    • MitraClip (mitral valve repair)
    • Septal defect closure (ASD, PFO)
    • Alcohol septal ablation

In addition to procedural training, our curriculum includes weekly conferences designed to strengthen clinical decision-making, critical thinking, and scholarly engagement. Our fellows are encouraged to participate in research, quality improvement, and teaching opportunities throughout the year.

  • Core lecture series in interventional cardiology
  • Fellow-led case presentations
  • Weekly valve meetings
