The Extern Training in Clinical Neuropsychology at Endeavor Health offers advanced training in adult and pediatric neuropsychology. With three distinct tracks and a strong foundation in neuropsychological assessment, consultation, with structured supervision, this practicum provides an immersive and supportive experience for graduate students pursuing careers in neuropsychology.

About the program

For the 2026–2027 academic year, Endeavor Health offers the following neuropsychology externship training tracks:

  • Evanston adult neuropsychology track
  • Evanston pediatric neuropsychology track
  • Hinsdale pediatric neuropsychology track

This externship focuses on outpatient neuropsychological assessment and consultation. Externs will be trained in a variety of neuropsychological measures, receive formal didactic training in neuropsychological disorders and will obtain extensive experience in clinical assessment and report writing.

Limited supplemental inpatient experiences may be available for the Evanston adult track (e.g., intraoperative language mapping and Wada testing), depending on scheduling and clinical need.

Program structure & curriculum

Students participate in neuropsychological assessment and consultation with increasing independence over the course of the year. Training emphasizes evidence-based evaluation, clear clinical documentation and effective communication with referring clinicians and families.

Externs receive:

  • At least two hours of structured individual supervision each week
  • Ongoing informal supervision as needed
  • Biweekly group supervision

Externs from all three tracks attend:

  • Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Grand Rounds
  • A dedicated two-hour Neuropsychology Case Conference immediately afterward

Didactics occur on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings of each month, and attendance is mandatory.

Didactic attendance expectations:

  • Evanston tracks: In person at the Evanston location twice per month
  • Hinsdale track: In person once per month at the Evanston location and once per month at the Hinsdale location

Externs are expected to be on site 16–20 hours per week, typically over 2–3 days.

Life as a student

From individualized supervision to accessible training sites and a collegial learning environment, our practicum is designed to support students both professionally and personally as they build foundational skills in clinical neuropsychology.

Practicum students train on-site 16–20 hours per week, typically over 2–3 days. This schedule supports hands-on learning and allows flexibility for academic responsibilities outside of placement.

Students receive a minimum of two hours of weekly individual supervision, biweekly group supervision and additional informal mentoring from licensed neuropsychologists and postdoctoral fellows.

Training occurs in modern outpatient facilities with EMR access and multidisciplinary collaboration. Didactic sessions, including Grand Rounds and Case Conferences, provide structured learning twice monthly.
