About the program

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship is a three-year, ACGME-accredited program that integrates the clinical strengths and academic resources of two major institutions: Endeavor Health and the University of Chicago. Fellows train in high-volume, demographically diverse environments with exposure to both community-based and academic care.

Key features include:

  • Advanced procedural training including amniocentesis, CVS, PUBS, vaginal breech extraction, cerclage and operative delivery
  • Multidisciplinary clinics such as OB/Cardiology, MFM/Endocrinology and the Fetal-Neonatal Care Clinic
  • Access to 19 board-certified MFM faculty across both institutions
  • Opportunities for electives in endocrinology, cardiology, neonatology, fetal echocardiography, humanities and more
  • 12 months of protected research time and participation in the NICHD-sponsored MFM Unit Network

Program structure & curriculum

  • Core clinical rotations in high-risk obstetrics at both sites
  • Introduction to ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis and family planning
  • Begin protected research time (minimum 12 months across program)
  • Rotations in fetal echocardiography, genetics, pathology and surgical consultation
  • Expanded electives and multidisciplinary clinics
  • Deepen research involvement and thesis development
  • Leadership in consult services and specialized clinics
  • Finalize and present research projects
  • Continued elective and procedural experience
  • Weekly Friday protected didactics
  • Monthly journal clubs and chapter reviews
  • Quarterly simulation sessions (e.g., amniocentesis, medical emergencies, perimortem cesarean)
  • Fellowship book club with expert-led discussions

How to apply

Eligibility:
Applicants must be board-eligible or certified in obstetrics and gynecology and eligible for J-1 visa sponsorship.

Application process:
Submit all required materials via ERAS by April 28, 2025. Interview notifications will be sent by May 19 with interviews scheduled for:

  • July 11 & 18
  • August 8 & 22

Match Day: October 1, 2025

  • Four letters of recommendation (including one from your residency program director and one from your Ob-Gyn chair)
  • Dean’s letter / MSPE
  • Medical school transcripts and diploma (plus English translation if applicable)
  • USMLE/COMLEX transcript
  • Valid ECFMG certificate (for international graduates)
  • CREOG scores and diploma (to be submitted directly to the program)

    • Level III referral center with >39,000 annual deliveries in its catchment
    • Focus on academic medicine, research infrastructure and complex cases
  • Endeavor Health sites, including Evanston Hospital
    • High-volume community care with advanced perinatal services
    • Home to the 13,000 sq ft Grainger Simulation Center
