This one-year fellowship at Evanston Hospital develops diagnostic expertise in breast, gynecologic and perinatal pathology to prepare trainees for practice in both academic and community settings. Our program is sponsored by the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.

About the program

The Women’s Pathology Fellowship trains one fellow per year in the subspecialties of breast, gynecologic and perinatal pathology. Fellows work alongside expert, specialty-trained pathologists and benefit from a diverse specimen mix from both suburban and urban populations. The program includes robust opportunities in translational research, interdisciplinary collaboration and resident education.

Fellows actively participate in all aspects of diagnostic surgical pathology including intraoperative consultations, outside case reviews and departmental tumor boards. Elective time offers flexibility for focused research or further specialization.

  • Gynecologic pathology (4 months): Neoplastic and non-neoplastic surgical pathology, intraoperative consultations, consults
  • Perinatal pathology (2 months): Placental and product of conception examinations; optional autopsy service participation

Fellows use this time for research or further training in areas of interest. A primary research project is expected to be developed early in the fellowship and pursued longitudinally with faculty mentorship.
