The Pharmacy Residency Programs at Endeavor Health NorthShore Hospitals (an operating division of Endeavor Health Clinical Operations) develop well-rounded, compassionate pharmacists through rigorous training, dedicated mentorship and hands-on clinical experience in diverse practice settings. Our six ASHP-accredited programs offer broad exposure to patient care, informatics, ambulatory services, oncology, leadership and research across four hospitals and specialty clinics.

PGY1 Purpose

PGY1 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives. Residents who successfully complete PGY1 residency programs will be skilled in diverse patient care, practice management, leadership, and education, and be prepared to provide patient care, seek board certification in pharmacotherapy (i.e., BCPS), and pursue advanced education and training opportunities including postgraduate year two (PGY2) residencies.

PGY2 Purpose

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Life as a resident

From competitive stipends and wellness benefits to hands-on learning and a supportive culture, our residency programs are structured to help you thrive both professionally and personally. Resident experiences are scheduled with resident preferences in mind. Projects and presentations are required throughout the year.  Residents from different programs may work with each other occasionally to accomplish common learning or projects.

Pharmacy residents are full-time, salaried employees of Endeavor Health Clinical Operations. Salaries are highly competitive with other Chicago-area residency programs, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, plus access to Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).

Residents train at modern clinical sites including Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie Hospitals. Facilities include onsite inpatient, outpatient, and infusion pharmacies and full Epic EMR integration across all settings. Free parking and remote access to resources are provided. A specified resident office space is available at each site.

All residents participate in academic days, teaching certificate programs (including precepting students) and longitudinal Quality Improvement or research projects. Program support is partially provided for attending conferences such as the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and the Illinois Pharmacy Resident Conference.

Pharmacy residents receive 22 days of paid time off (PTO) per year. Endeavor Health offers robust wellness resources to support emotional, physical and financial well-being, along with complimentary access to fitness facilities.

Free hospital-provided parking is available at all Endeavor Health sites. Training locations in Evanston, Glenview, Highland Park and Skokie are accessible by car or public transit from across the North Shore and Chicago.
